Question 1 — Word processing

Open 1_TownshipHubs.docx and insert your Name and Surname in the header (Insert → Header → Edit Header, type, then Close Header and Footer). Also put your examination number in the header.

1.13 marks

Change the properties: Title to 'Township Innovation Hubs 2026', Subject to 'YISA', Author to 'Youth Innovate SA'.

Show answer
  1. File → Info. On the right, under Properties, click the Title box and type Township Innovation Hubs 2026.

  2. Click Properties → Advanced Properties → Summary tab. Type YISA in Subject.

  3. In Author type Youth Innovate SA. Click OK. If the old author is a link in the Info pane, right-click it → Edit Property, replace it.

Why this earns the marks

three properties = three actions = three marks. Properties are metadata: a small internal record stored with the file, completely separate from the words on the page. A marker (and the exam's automated checks) read Title/Subject/Author straight out of that record — no amount of typing "Subject: YISA" into the visible document would ever satisfy this, because that's page content, not the metadata field being checked. The Summary tab of Advanced Properties holds all three in one place, which is the fastest route, and is also the only place Subject lives — the simplified Info pane on the right only exposes Title and Author directly.

Set margins to Normal and apply automatic hyphenation for the whole document.

Show answer
  1. Layout → Margins → Normal (2.54 cm all round).

  2. Layout → Hyphenation → Automatic.

Why this earns the marks

both are document-wide settings, so you do not need to select text first — margins and hyphenation apply to the whole document (or, if it already has multiple sections, to whichever section the cursor is in, which is why Ctrl+A first guarantees every section is covered). Do this before the table of contents so page numbers in the TOC are correct: margins change how much text fits per page, which shifts every page number after that point, and a TOC built before that shift would show numbers that are now wrong until refreshed again.

1.33 marks

Below the text 'Contents', insert an automatic table of contents in the 'Classic' format with any tab leader.

Show answer
  1. Click on the empty line directly below the text "Contents".

  2. References → Table of Contents → Custom Table of Contents…

  3. In the dialog set Formats: Classic and choose any Tab leader (the dotted line is typical). Click OK.

  4. Last step of the question paper: after finishing 1.4, right-click the TOC → Update Field → Update entire table so All Caps headings appear in it correctly.

Why this earns the marks

the marks are for (1) automatic TOC at the right place, (2) Classic format, (3) a tab leader. A manually typed list would not be "automatic" because it isn't a field — it has no link back to the document's actual headings or page numbers, so it will never update and the examiner can tell at a glance it isn't the real feature. The two built-in Automatic Table options do not let you pick Classic, so the custom dialog is required — they're a convenient shortcut for the default look, not a way to control which named format is used.

If the TOC comes out empty or misses headings, the headings may use styles such as HubHeading that have no outline level. In the dialog click Options… and give the style a TOC level, or check that the heading text uses Heading 1/2/3.

1.44 marks

Modify the style HubHeading: 18 pt, centred, All CAPS, then automatically update all text where this style has been applied.

Show answer
  1. Home → Styles pane (arrow at the bottom-right of the Styles group). Right-click HubHeading → Modify…

  2. Set font size to 18.

  3. Click the Center alignment button.

  4. Click Format → Font…, tick All caps, OK.

  5. Choose "Only in this document" and click OK. All paragraphs in this style update automatically.

Why this earns the marks

editing the style instead of the text is the key idea: a style is the single shared formatting rule behind every paragraph tagged with it, so changing the rule once changes every paragraph at once, which is exactly what "automatically update all text" is testing for. If you formatted one heading by hand, you could right-click the style → Update HubHeading to Match Selection, which reads your hand-formatted example back into the shared rule and does the same job in reverse. Do not apply All Caps by typing in capitals, because that changes the text (the actual letters stored in the document) rather than the formatting — a search for the original mixed-case words would then fail, and the change wouldn't be undone by reverting the style.

1.53 marks

Starting from the page after the Table of Contents page, turn on line numbering and ensure it restarts from 1 on each page.

Show answer
  1. Click at the start of the first page after the TOC page. If the TOC page does not end in a section break, insert one at the end of the TOC page: Layout → Breaks → Next Page. (Check with the ¶ button.)

  2. With the cursor in the new section: Layout → Line Numbers → Line Numbering Options… → Layout tab → Line Numbers…

  3. Tick Add line numbering.

  4. Set Numbering: Restart each page. Make sure Apply to: This section (or "This point forward") is selected. OK.

Why this earns the marks

line numbering is a section setting, exactly like margins, columns or page borders — it can never apply to "part of" a document unless that part is its own section first. Without a break between the TOC and the content, line numbers would also appear on the TOC page, because there would only be one section covering both, so the numbering would not start "from the page after" no matter how the Line Numbers dialog is configured. The three actions are: begin in the right place (which usually means creating the section break first), switch numbering on, and set restart each page — each is independently checkable.

Locate the SmartArt under 'Incubator timeline': change layout to 'Pie Process', set colours to any 'Primary Theme Colors', and add the bullet 'Seed Stage' as a new final item.

Show answer
  1. Click the SmartArt. On SmartArt Design → Layouts gallery → More Layouts… → Process → Pie Process → OK.

  2. SmartArt Design → Change Colors → under Primary Theme Colors pick any option.

  3. Open the Text Pane (arrow on the left edge of the graphic). Click at the end of "Demo day", press Enter, type Seed Stage. (Alternative: Add Shape → Add Shape After, then type the text.)

Why this earns the marks

one action per bullet in the question: layout, colour and content are three independent properties of a SmartArt graphic, so setting one never automatically satisfies another. The new item must be last, so add it after the final existing entry — SmartArt keeps its Text Pane bullets and visual shapes in the same order, so where you add the new line in the outline is exactly where the new shape appears in the diagram. The sample picture in the paper shows five items ending with Seed Stage, which is a good check that you added a genuinely new sixth bullet rather than editing an existing one.

Insert a Table of Figures on the last page but do not display the label and number in the entries.

Show answer
  1. Press Ctrl+End to go to the last page and place the cursor where the table belongs (below any heading provided).

  2. References → Insert Table of Figures.

  3. Untick Include label and number. Leave the Caption label as Figure. OK.

  4. Save and close 1_TownshipHubs.docx.

Why this earns the marks

mark 1 is inserting the table of figures on the last page; mark 2 is the untick. The entries then show only the caption text with page numbers, because a Table of Figures is a field built from existing captions, the same way a TOC is built from heading styles — it has nothing to scan for if a picture or table was never given a caption, which is why an empty list almost always means missing captions elsewhere, not a broken field. This question just expects the field inserted correctly with that one display option changed; the underlying caption data is the paper's responsibility, not something you need to fix.
