Computer Applications Technology 2026

Question 2 — Word processing
2.31 mark

Display the year of the citation (Ndlovu, 2023) at the end of the first paragraph on page 5.

Show answer
  1. Click the citation (Ndlovu) at the end of that paragraph. Click the small down arrow on its frame.

  2. Choose Edit Citation.

  3. Under Suppress, untick Year. OK.

Why this earns the marks

the paper hides the year by "suppressing" it — a citation field can independently show or hide its Author/Year/Title parts without deleting any of that data from the underlying source record. Unticking Year un-suppresses it so (Ndlovu, 2023) appears, pulling the year back out of the source you already have on file. Do not type the year by hand, since that breaks the citation field: a hand-typed year sits outside the field entirely, so updating the bibliography or changing the source later would no longer keep that in-text year in sync.

Question 2 — Word processing
2.72 marks

Add a book source with Author: A. Dlamini; Title: Township Tech; Year: 2022. Update the Bibliography on the last page.

Show answer
  1. References → Manage Sources → New…

  2. Type of Source: Book. Next to Author click Edit: First A., Last Dlamini, Add, OK.

  3. Title Township Tech, Year 2022. OK, Close.

  4. Go to the last page, click inside the Bibliography, and choose Update Citations and Bibliography.

  5. Save and close 2_YouthPitch.docx.

Why this earns the marks

mark 1 = source correctly created (right type and fields); mark 2 = Bibliography field refreshed. The Bibliography does not update by itself, because — like the TOC and the Table of Figures — it's a field computed from a snapshot of the source list at the moment it was last built, not a live view of it. If the new entry does not show after updating, check that the source is in the Current List and, if needed, insert a citation to it, then update again: a source that exists in your master list but has never actually been cited anywhere in the document is sometimes excluded from the bibliography depending on the style selected.
